Q and A

Question

Could Hunt's syndrome have affected my CD4 count?

My cd4 count was very low-94 and also my viral load was low 12000 when I was only diagnosed one and a half months ago and started treatment one month ago. I had a realy bad fungal infection for about 2 years that wouldn’t go away. Also I had a nasty rash on the souls of my feet. They are getting better does this mean that I have had a significant increase in CD4 cells. Also just before I was diagnosed I came down with Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Would that have an impact on reduction of CD4 cells?

Answer

Hunt’s syndrome is caused by herpes zoster virus.

This infection does not really play much of a role when it comes to the CD4 count. On the contrary, it may reappear with the increase of the CD4 count and some scientist believe that this may be linked to immune reconstitution.

It is great that the rash on your feet improves. Most probably you have also an improvement of your CD4 count, but only a test couls show that clearly.
