Q and A

Question

What time should I take my ARVs?

I recently discoverd that I’m HIV and pregnant and my CD4 is above 500. I just want to know what is the right time to drink medication? Because I eat at 18h30 and drink the tablets at 19h00 is it safe?

Answer

Hi,

I’m sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis but congratulations on your pregnancy!

The right time to take your medication will depend on which drugs you are taking. Can you tell me the names of the tablets you are taking?

Information about how to take different ARVs can be found on our meds page.

    Hi Thandiswa,

People who are positive can get allergies just like anyone else, and this includes pink eye.

Is it possible to have an allergy or pink eye while you have HIV?

    Hi Daniel,

When people take their meds and how often depends on their combination. What are you taking?

    Hi Christine,

If you’re taking meds that contain efavirenz then yes, at night is a good time to take them. That said, we are all different, so its important to take your meds at a time that works for you. What’s important is that you take them, and as prescribed.

    Hi Innocent,

If you think you may have been at risk, you will need to test. This is the only way that you’ll be able to find out if your positive or not.
