Q and A

Question

Can I use Senokot with my ARVs?

Is it ok to take Senokot tablets (laxative) whilst taking kaletra and truvada?

I am always bloated as I now hardly ever use the toilet.

I am planning on using laxatives as I do not like the weight gain.

Is Senokot fine to use with my medication? Is there an interaction between the medication and Senokot?

Answer

Hello,

Thanks for your email. There are no interactions expected between Senokot and your ARVs so it is fine to use these together.

Laxatives are not a good way to try to loose weight.

Please discuss this with your doctor so that they can help.

Hi Asa, there is no interaction between black forest and ARVs. It is safe to take them together to help alleviate your constipation.

Is it good to use black forest once in a while when constipated while on ARVs?

Hi Funny, yes you can drink Mist Albut at night. As it is more than 6 hours before your ARVs there is no risk of interaction.

Hi Pavia, please can you see the names of your other ARVs. There should be three different drugs included.

If one of these drugs is dolutegravir, there may be a drug interaction with the magnesium in Mist Alba. Please ask your pharmacist for advice. It might also be better to use a different type of laxative.

If your meds include a drug called efavirenz, then there is no interaction.
