My partner tested positive in pregnancy but I am negative…

My partner and i have been together for 8yrs and just found out we were expecting. During the routine blood test, she was found to be HIV positive whilst i was negative.
I am still trying to digest this news but don’t understand how i can be negative after so long? Any ideas why?
Answer
Hi
I am sorry to hear this news, but it much better for you partner to have found out early in the pregnancy.
Please see this question for why you have been lucky and why you are negative.

This news is also difficult and takes time to work through. Treatment today though means that the risk to the baby are dramatically reduced and that you partner should get a good response from treatment.
I hope everything goes well.
