Question

My CD4 count is 725. Can i have sex with out a condom?

My CD4 count is 725. I haven’t started treatment yet. Can i have sex with out a condom?

Answer

Being on ARVs helps reduce the risk of transmission. If someone is on treatment and has an ‘undetectable’ viral load the risk of transmission is extremely low. In many countries wanting to protect your partner is enough reason to start treatment.

Your CD4 count is very strong still. This means your immune system is working well. It doesn’t tell you anything about transmission though. To get the undetectable viral load i mentioned before you would have to start treatment.

You can find more information about HIV transmission online.

And more information about starting treatment.
