I’ve just started HIV treatment in Kenya, it’s going well but i have been given Septrin as well. I didn’t think i had anything else wrong with me. What is this for?
Answer
Hi,
It is great that you are on HIV treatment. Septrin or cotrimoxazole is often given to people as prophylaxis. This means it is used to prevent other infections. It is commonly given to people who have HIV, particularly in African countries. Often people are given Septrin while their immune system improves and CD4 goes up.
