Question

Can Volutrip be used as PEP?

Is volutrip used to prevent HIV infection after exposure?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Volutrip is a generic version of an ARV combination called TLD, please see here:

In the UK PEP uses a similar combination, but using raltegravir instead of dolutegravir. This is mainly due to differences in the price of different drugs.

In theory, TLD could be used as PEP, but a doctor needs to prescribe this for you.

PEP should never be used without taking an HIV test first.

Please see this link for more information about PEP:

    Hi Nico,

PEP is for a post exposure, it’s not used to prevent HIV. If you want to prevent HIV, you’d use PrEP.
If you’re in a relationship with someone who is positive, if they are taking ARVs and their viral load is undetectable, there’s no risk, please see here: https://i-base.info/u-equals-u/

If you are hiv negative and you are in a relationship with someone who’s hiv positive and you take PEP (volutrip) on daily basis, can you get infected by hiv?
