Question
Can I bring my HIV medication from Brazil into the UK?
24 May 2022. Related: Access to treatment, All topics, Travel.
I live in Brazil but I intend to move and live in England (in the city of Bath). I have HIV and I need to take my medications when I go. I would like to know if there are any impediments to the entry of my medication? Because I should take medications for three or six months of treatment. Is there any document I should present along with the medicines?
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
Yes you can bring your medication. You will require a doctors prescription to prove that this medication is for you. No further documentation is required.
If you are intending to move to the UK, HIV medication is free and readily accessible. Treatment can be accessed from sexual health clinics over the country (including Bath) and you do not need to be resident.
To help with this process if you intend to access treatment in the UK, brining a history of your treatment will help guide the appropriate prescription for yourself.
There are no restrictions in the UK for people living with HIV.
Josh.
