Q and A

Question

Is there risk to baby after being given solids?

They fed my new born 3 times solid food while he’s on nevarapine. They gave him warm water once, so is it possible to affect the child? He’s 1 month old and my viral load is 54. I’m scared

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Congratulations on having a baby.

Baby being on nevirapine and yourself having such a low viral load means there is almost no risk to baby at all.

Though baby is a little young to be given solids. This is unlikely to have risk baby’s risk of transmission but being given solids when this young can be tricky for baby to digest.

It is still best to only breastfeed until baby is a little older and their tummy develops so they will be able to eat more.

Is baby settling well with breastfeeding or do you think baby needs more food?

Josh.
