Q and A

Question

My tests were negative, do I need another test?

I had a unprotected exposure on 16th Feb this year with a girl from my neighbourhood whose having one more sexually active partner. After 2 months I got tested with an ELISA test and the result came back negative but I was still anxious and got tested again with an ELISA test after 3 months and 20 days from my last exposure it came back as negative too.

Are these two tests enough or should I retest again?

My test results were –

* ABBOTT AXSYM MEIA

HIV – 1 & 2 ANTIBODIES NON REACTIVE

* INTERPRETATION

HIV – 1 & 2 ANTIBODIES NON REACTIVE

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Both your test results were negative. You do not have HIV. You do not need to test again unless you have another possible exposure.

    Thanx a lot for answering that question..!!
    I have been going through a lot of sites and allmost all the sites say that seroconversion for 98% people occurs at 3 months but it is usually safe to get tested at 6 months to avoid that 2% chances .. Is this true ?? If yes then what do u suggest ??

    No, you do not need to repeat the test again. You are both negative for HIV.

    I am a physiotherapist and in March this year while testing a patient’s sugar levels I was accidentally pricked by the needle. The patient is HIV-1 positive. After 3 and a half months, that is a week back, I and my husband got tested for HIV through ELISA method and both of us tested negative. DO WE NEED TO REPEAT THE TEST AGAIN ?? IAM UNDER A LOT OF STRESS!!
