Question
I took a double dose…
24 February 2024. Related: Adherence, All topics, Side effects.
Hi, I accidentally took 2 dosses of ARVs 4 hours from each other due failure that I was not sure if I did take it on my alarm time (schedule time). Will it have any Negative Effects on my organs e.g kidneys?
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
No. This will not cause any long term problems with your kidneys.
Accidentally taking a double dose of an ARV is not going to have any long term problems. While there is a higher level of ARV in your body than normal, you may experience more common side effects for the next day – possibly the headache you have mentioned.
As the level of ARV returns to normal in your body in the next day, these additional side effects should wear off. If the side effects continue, or you are concerned about them please speak with your pharmacist.
Josh.
Hello Hyacinthe and thanks for getting in touch.
It would be best to space it a bit more or completely skip the next dose and re-start the next day.
It’s ok to miss one dose, please don’t worry
Hello! My phone has got a problem 17th March 2025! I used to take my IRV drug every 7:30 p.m , but my alarm didn’t ring! And I remember that I forgot to take it! So 16 hours of late, I take my drug! Can I take again my usually drug at 7:30 p.m? Please Answer,
Hi Simeon, please don’t worry about this. Everyone does this at some time and there is no harm. Please just continue at your normal time again this evening.
I mistakenly took my medications in the morning because I felt like i did not take it before. What should I do? Will it affect me
Thnx Josh-Highly Appreciated
