Question

Can people with HIV use Implanon contraceptive implant?

Is Implanon indicated for people with HIV?

Answer

Hi there

Please don’t worry about this as Implanon is very safe and effective in people living with HIV. Implanon is the brand name for the hormone progestogen (etonogestrel). It is a long-acting, slow-release implant in your upper arm.

You didn’t say which HIV meds you are taking but there is no interaction with TLD (tenofovir DF / lamivudine / dolutegravir)

It is easy to check other HIV drugs at the University of Liverpool Drug Interaction checker:
