Q and A

Question

Where can I buy a home testing kit for HIV?

Hello i-Base,

Right I will start off by saying I am so petrified to take a test it’s unbelievable. I have been in a cycle for 10 weeks now where I keep going over and over things that might or might not have happened.

Ok, I wanted to ask for your help, I want to do a HIV DUO home testing kit – I have searched the net but can’t find anything do you know anywhere where I can get one and do it from home? Thanks

Answer

Thank you for your question.

It would help me to give you a more accurate answer if I knew which country you were in. In the UK there are currently no home test kits available only home sampling kits where you take the blood sample yourself and send it to a clinician for your results.

I know you are worried but you would be better off going to your local GUM clinic for a confidential test. You can give a false name and address if you want and your GP will not be notified. If you would like someone to talk to you about the process of testing then please call our phoneline Mon-Wed 12-4pm.

I’m sorry that we are not able to answer individual questions on testing.

The information you want is in the i-Base guide to HIV transmission and testing.

I had an 8 week hiv test in a laboratory, can I take this result as a conclusive?
