Q and A

Question

Does my sister have HIV?

Hello everyone,

I am posting about my sister. About 9 months ago, she had unprotected sex with her boyfriend. He previously took a HIV test and it was negative. After they broke up, she had depression for 7-8 months. 2 months ago, her throat became sore, her ear started hurting, she had a little dry cough and dizziness. She refuses to take a HIV test. What do you think about her symptoms? What are the odds that she actually has HIV?

Please help me get my peace of mind back. Thank you for your help.

Answer

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry to hear that your sister has been unwell. The only way your sister will know if she is HIV positive or not is by doing a test. For more information on testing please follow this link

It is not possible for her to have caught HIV from her ex-boyfriend if he is HIV negative. Her symptoms are likely to be caused by something else. She should contact her doctor so that her doctor can investigate further what is causing her sore throat and cough etc.

Her cough and ear ache could be due to a cold but I cannot say as I am not a doctor. Your sister needs to see her doctor so that he/she can find our what is wrong with her.

    Hello,
Thank you for your answer. I appreciate your help.

I’m sorry to be persistent, but if I understood well, dizziness isn’t an HIV symptom? Maybe her cough and ear ache is due to a cold?

I’m sorry to ask many questions, but I’m worried about her.
    Thank you very much.
