Q and A

Question

I am an HIV positive nurse. Which countries can I move to?

I am an HIV positive skilled nurse. I am planning to relocate and find better life either in New Zealand or somewhere else.

How will my status affect my plans?

What countries offer a more liberal migration policies for HIV positives? thanks

Answer

NOTE: In October 2021 further HIV restrictions were removed in New Zealand. See:

Hi

You will need to contact the embassy’s for the countries that you are interested in moving too. I’m sorry that we do not maintain an ongoing resource for this.

You are right that your skills should enable you to travel, and I hope something works out for you.

This link to a good site with information on HIV travel restrictions may be a good place to start. The page on New Zealand does not look promising, though it is worth you checking yourself in case the information has changed.

This Q was updated in October 2021 from an original post in 2010.

Hi Patience, where are you wanting to work? In the UK there is no restriction for being a care worker when you’re HIV positive.
