Q and A

Question

How long do enlarged lymph nodes last in seroconversion?

How long does the symptoms of HIV last at maximum period specially enlarged lymph nodes?

Do they continue getting larger after seroconversion or stop with the other symptoms.

Answer

With HIV there is a wide variety of responses.

Generally, seroconversion symptoms only last for a week or two. They all come together and all go together. See this Q&A for more information.
A few people get more severe seroconversion symptoms and need to start HIV treatment.

Enlarged lymph nodes on their own are not a symptom of HIV. Any symptom needs to be seen by a doctor who can provide individual advice.

Thanks so much Roy , unfortunately , my doctor said that there won’t Another test till 6months. Except for the lymph node glands and joint /muscle ache , I’m not feeling another thing . The muscle ache has been more than a month , already . Was just hoping that if there is something wrong that I would start treatment early to control it . Thanks so much for the good work that you are doing .

    Hi Matee,

Thank you. But as you know we are not doctors at i-Base unfortunately. However, it might be a good idea to have another HIV test now. Is that possible?

You can ask the doctor to look at your enlarged lymph nodes and check for other things that might cause these symptoms.

Please see this other Q&A about seroconversion symptoms.

First, I want to thank you guys for the wonderful job you are doing, it’s really helpful. I was exposed to hiv ‘more than 2 months ago, I was on pep for 1month . But ever since i stopped taking it, I’ve been feeling sick . My doctor said it maybe psychological effect. I had pcr and all sorts of test done and he said since they didn’t find anything , I would have to wait till 6 months for another test. I’ve been having both joint and muscle pain for more than a month, not severe, though. I had a boil on my groin area and later started feeling mild pain which I notice is from the lymph node. But what got me worried is is that I started feeling another pain in my jaw area after I lifted something heavy, I then robbed on it and noticed it’s from same
Lymph node, Even behind my ear but none of them is actually visible . When I complained of the boil, I was given antibiotics. My body is always warm but when temperature is checked , it comes out normal. I just want to know if it’s hiv so that I can start treatment on time. I know you guys can’t do much considering that you don’t have my test result but would appreciate It you can give me a clue because I have not been sleeping all these while because of the case. Thanks in advance

I had unprotected sex a year ago. I’ve had swollen lymph nodes for the last 6 months. Do I have HIV?
