Question

I vomitted 4 hours after taking my combination, should I have taken another dose.

I have been on an atazanavir combination for 6 months and take my medication after breakfast. On Saturday I vomited 4 hours after taking my pills. Will that be a problem? Should I have taken another dose?

Answer

Please see this similar question: What do I do if I’m sick after I take my medication?

If you are interested in the science behind this then this page explains what happens when you take a drug. With atazanavir, the c-max (when the highest level of drug is in your system) is usually around 2-5 hours after taking the pill. So If you vomitted 4 hours after taking atazanvir it is unlikely to have affected the drug levels in your body. This means you would not have needed to take another dose. You can read information about the c-max and other details of your drugs on the HIV drug interactions website. This is very technical information but may be interesting to people looking for a more detailed understanding of how HIV drugs work.
