Q and A

Question

My CD4 count is 24 and I’m not on treatment.

My doctor says my CD4 count is 24 but he refused to give me treatment. How is it possible that I’m still walking?

Answer

If your CD4 count is 24 it is very important you start treatment as soon as possible. This is because you are at risk of developing opportunistic infections when your CD4 count is this low. Although it is possible to still feel OK when your CD4 count is this low it’s likely that you will develop an illness such as TB or pneumonia if you do not start treatment soon. The risk of a low CD4 count is explained in our combination therapy guide.

Why has your doctor refused to give you treatment?

Is there any chance of living longer with that low cd4 count of 24?
