PCP

PCP – pneumocystis jiroveci (new) or pneumocystis carinii (old). A fungal infection that causes pneumonia. PCP section of the training manual.

Lymph node

lymph node – small bodies in the lymphatic system, particularly at the neck, armpit, and groin, that filter bacteria and foreign particles. During infection, lymph nodes may become swollen with white blood cells (lymphocytes) fighting the infection.

KS

KS – Kaposi’s sarcoma. Cancer: lymphoma and sarcoma.

jaundice

jaundice – a common symptom of hepatitis where increased levels of bilirubin lead to a yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Generic drug

generic drug – drug supplied under its common (chemical) name.

Fusion inhibitor

fusion inhibitor – a type of HIV drug (an entry inhibitor). Fusion inhibitors stops HIV ‘fusing’ to a CD4 cell. T-20 (enfuvirtide, Fuzeon) is only currently licensed fusion inhibitor. Drug targets in the virus life cycle.
