I’ve been diagnosed with HIV 1 and 2. Will my ART work?

I was diagnosed with HIV 1 and 2 a month ago. I started ART (lamivudine, zidovudine and efavirenz). Will the ART be effective?

Hi,
It is very important that you talk to your clinic or doctor about the meds you are taking.
Some meds that work with HIV 1 do not work with HIV 2. The efavirenz you are taking does not work against HIV 2. It is important that you are taking three ‘active’ drugs so that treatment works well.
Guidelines for HIV 2 in the UK recommend that you use a class of drugs called protease inhibitors. You can ask your clinic of doctor about these.
