Q and A

Question

I might run out of meds for 10 days, what will happen?

I’m in South Africa. I’m running out of my Atroiza treatment and i am not in my home province. It could be 10 days without treatment before i get home. What will happen without treatment for 10 days, can i get treatment i this province without a transfer letter?

Answer

Hi,

It is important that you find treatment to take for those 10 days. If you do not you may develop resistance. This means your meds may stop working. HIV i-Base is based in the UK so unfortunately i do not have specific information about how or where to access treatment in South Africa. The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) is a South African organisation that works with people who have HIV on treatment issues. You can contact them to see if they have more relevant information.

You can find TAC’s contact details on their website.

    Hi Martha,

It’s important that you talk to the doctor straight away about your headache and dizziness.

But have you found it difficult to get your meds now you’ve moved? The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) is a South African organisation that works with people who have HIV treatment issues. You can contact them to see if they can help.

I’ve been out of meds for three weeks because I’ve moved from where I was staying, so I went to take my meds but 2 days later I felt sick when it’s time to take my meds. I would have pains on the back of my head, a headache, and also dizziness. I really don’t know what’s wrong.
