Q and A

What is Atroiza used for?

Atroiza is a combination pill than contains three HIV drugs. It is a generic version of Atripla.

It is mainly used to treat HIV.

However, i some countries the same drugs (efavirenz/tenofovirDF/emtricitabine) are used as PEP to prevent HIV infection.

This is not recommended in the UK or in other guidelines. which recommend different HIV drugs for PEP. This is because of concerns about efavirenz side effects in HIV negative people.

See: PEP, PEPSE and PrEP.

Hi i need some help, I have been on TRENVIR medication, now I wanna change to ATROIZA, will it be a problem?

    Hi Zozo,

There shouldn’t be any change to your viral load, as there hasn’t been a break in treatment. It’s now becoming common to change from Atripla to dolutrgravir based regimes.

    Hy i am Zozo

They change my hiv treatment from atripla to Emdolten (tenofovir, dolutegravir and lamivudine).. What does it mean about my viral load?

    Hi Gcini,

If you’re having an issue with your medication, you’ll need to talk to your doctor about this.

Is possible to request a change in the HIV drugs (volutrip) that I’m taking I haven’t been feeling well since I started taking about three months ago, is there a possibility of me changing to Afroiza?

    Hi Thapelo,

ARVs should be taken at a time that works well for you. If you want to take your meds at 9pm, then take them then. If you’re new to meds you may find the following helpful: https://i-base.info/guides/starting

First day was 18:30 but now I want to take them at 21:00 is it a good or a bad thing to do?

    Hi Zara,

Taking your meds 2 hours late is fine.

If you realise you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. BUT, if you only realise when you’re going to take your next dose, do not take a double dose. Just take a single dose.

I am taking Atrozia at 22:00 every time and I fell asleep at 21:00 and I just woke up now. So I need to know if it is still appropriate for me to take them since I am almost 2 hours late?

    Hi Moss,

Atrozia isn’t used as PrEP, you need to take an ARV called Truvada, please see here: https://i-base.info/guides/prep
