Q and A

Question

How long does an HIV negative infant take the Ilvitrim syrup?

For how long can an infant take the ilvitrim suspension syrup when tested negative?

Answer

Hi

Please ask your doctor about this. The doctor will tell you why it is important and how long it need to be used for.

Usually it will be for at least 18 months. However, it also needs to be continued if breastfeeding is longer than this.

Ilvitrim syrup is a combination of two antibiotics. It protects your baby from different infections.

Hi Faith, at five months it should be fine to just use formula milk all the time. Please talk to your doctor about this though, especially if you are worried.

    Hi Elizabeth,

illivitrim is an antibiotic, it’s not an ARV. Unless there’s a specific reason why you baby needs to take it, she may not need it. You’ll need to talk to your childs doctor. Also as she’s now over 1 she can be given cows milk.

    Hi Jane,

ilvitrim suspension isn’t an ARV, it’s an antibiotic. Therefore the best thing to do is to ask your babies doctor.
