Answer
If your doctor prescribed HIV medication that looks like the pill in the picture and has M171 embossed, this is likely to be Tribuss.
The picture is not very clear, but M171 is one one side and D100 is on the other.
This is based on the information at this website.

Tribuss is a generic version of Atripla and it is manufactured by Aspen. It is widely used in South Africa.
Just like Atripla, Tribuss contains three active HIV drugs – efavirenz, tenofovir-DF and emtricitabine.
Sometimes Tribuss is mainly used as an HIV treatment by people who are HIV positive. However, this is an older treatment that is steadily being switched to newer drugs in many countries.
Some countries use Tribuss as a way to prevent HIV after recent risk for people who are HIV negative. This way of using HIV meds is called PEP. Tribuss is not recommended as PEP in most countries though because of the risk of side effects that are higher in people who are HIV negative.

My CD4 count is 790. So I stopped taking pills for prevention of TB this month. So My partner and I want to have a healthy baby. My partner is Negative. So what can we do to have a healthy baby while am the only one who is positive?
Is it really possible?
Hi Loveness,
It sounds like you’ve been given different generic versions of Atripla. Its not common to have side effects to one, then not to the other. If the side effects that you had were in the beginning, so within the first 1-4 weeks of treatment, then this is common. Your body should now be used to the medication. And it sounds like it is as you’ve been fine for 5 months.
Hi Roy.
The pill I was talking abt was Rf 21 [Astra sonke] its a white bobble and the pill is also white.
The first time I started my treatment I took them. So I had rash, sleepless nights bad dream. Can’t eat then developed a rush on my stomach so I went back to clinic then thy changed to the blue bottle (yellowish pill) named M171. Its been 5months now and am doing OK. So my last appointment was on 10th April but thy gave me the first pills ( white pill and bottle. “Astra” “sonke” ) that made me sick before. So am worried if I’ll be sick or normal. Am just worried
Hi Loveness,
The pill marked with M171 is likely to be Tribuss. Tribuss is just one name for single tablet treatment for HIV. You can see other names for this combination of drugs under the name Atripla.
Basically, all these pills are as effective and have the same strength as each other.
I’m not sure what pill RF21 is. What does it say on the bottle or box?
What’s the difference between M171 and RF 21? And which pill is more stronger or effective than the other?
Hi Siwe,
I’m not sure what M1502 is. Are you taking it, and please let us know what the doctor said about it.
Is M1502 used to treat hiv
Hi Nandi,
Dumiva is a generic name for Kivexa. But M157 seems to be another drug.
If you’re taking Dumiva (Kivexa) as part of your HIV meds it’s important that you see the doctor urgently. Please can you check that you’re not having an allergic reaction.
Hi Nandi I’m taking Dumiva M157 for two weeks now my body is developing swollen pimples everywhere and they are very itchy, I’ve been in treatment for over 11 months and my pharmacy replaced my previous one with this one, my face is swollen up like I’m having an allergic reaction, what can I do
Hi Annonymous,
As it says above M171 is likely to be Tribuss. But I’m not sure what drug is stamped with M117. Is it another version of Tribuss? Please see this link for a list of pills that contain the same drugs as Tribuss.
What did your doctor says when the pill was changed?
