Q and A

Question

Is it safe to take Aluvia, lamivudine and zidovudine when you’re pregnant?

Hi I’m am currently taking Aluvia 200mg/50mg and Lamivudine and Zidovudine 150/300. I suspect that I am pregnant. Should I be worried about my treatment possibly harming my baby? Is it safe to carry on with the pregnancy?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

The ARVs that you are taking are safe to take whilst pregnant. Therefore, you do not need to worry about your combination.

    Hi Tumi,

What does your doctor say about this?

Aluvia contains lopinavir and a booster called ritonavir. Adco-Emtevir contains tenofovir DF and emtricitabine (FTC). Reyataz is atazanavir, which is the same class of drug as lopinavir. Atazanavir needs to be taken with ritonavir, which is the same booster in Aluvia.

This seems like an unusual combination for HIV treatment (ART), so please talk to your doctor about it.

Do you have access to your CD4 count and viral load results? Please let us know.

Is it safe to take Aluvia 100/25mg, Adco-Emtevir 200/300mg and Reyataz at the same time? If so, please tell me about the dosage

    Hi Mmakeketeng,

What does your doctor about the pains and inflammation around your waist? Please can you ask them what’s causing the inflammation.

And do you have access to your CD4 count and viral load results? Please let us know.

    Hi Joyce,

Atrozia and Odiume are both generic versions of Atripla. What this means is that they contain the same compounds. If you’re taking either of these ARVs, then there’s no reason why you should be taking any other ARVs. This is because this is a full combination.

Who’s advised you to also take Aluvia?

Am I safe if I’m using Aluvia and Atroiza or Odimune at the same time?

    Hi Khaya,

Rifafour is used to treat TB. But treating HIV and TB together can be complex. So please discuss this with your doctor.

But how is it going? Do you have access to your viral load and CD4 count? Please let us know.
