Q and A

Question

My viral load is 20, is this OK?

Been on Atripla for 6 years now ,

went for my regular test ,got my results today and CD4 is on 900 but VL is less than 20 copies am very worried as it is usually undetectable.

what can i do to make sure it gets undetectable again?

Answer

Thanks for getting a touch.

The classification for an undetectable viral load is less than 50 copies. Therefore, you are still undetectable because your viral load is less than this. You’re doing well, and have nothing to worry about.

    Hi Monalisa,

Its perfectly OK for you to try for a baby. Many people who are positive have children and its not an issue.
Your HIV is under control and this is really helpful when thinking about having a baby. Please see the following: http://i-base.info/guides/pregnancy

Hi John, 575 is within the CD4 range for someone who is HIV negative and healthy. But are you on HIV treatment? Please see these frequently asked questions on CD4 counts. Please see question 2 for CD4 counts and HIV treatment (ART).

    Hi Matini,

If you want to control your HIV you’re going to need to restart meds. Are you able to do this? If you are if its possible please ask your doctor to run a resistance test.
