Hi Aiden, in the UK HIV treatment is free regardless of residency status. Treatment is from sexual health clinics. You can use this link to find a clinic that will be local to you: https://www.bashh.org/clinics

When starting treatment in the UK at a new service, bringing your current medical records along with a months supply of treatment will help make the process quick and easy. You do not need to inform anyone for your student visa application.

I am having medicine in my country for free so not sure can I get medicine for free if I’m in there. May I know where should I get the medicine? Do I need to inform to who if I’m going to apply for student visa.

Hi Derek, are you HIV positive? PEP is only a course of treatment for 4 weeks and is then discontinued. If you are looking to access HIV treatment in the UK this is free for anyone regardless of residency status. HIV treatment is sorted by sexual health clinics. This are all over the country. This link can help you find a local clinic to where you will be staying: https://www.bashh.org/clinics

Good day, Im Derek, will be studying abroad in the UK soon this September 2023. Im taking HIV (PEP) medication currently and would sincerely like to ask if Im eligible to apply for treatment or medication when I come to the UK? May I know which portal or website should I apply for the application for the treatment/medication as a foreign student who will be studying abroad? Is it free for foreign student to take treatment and buy medicine?

Referring to the comments below, I acknowledge that I need to bring 1-2 months of medicine when Im entering the State and waiting for my application to be approved. I also will bring along with the doctor notes and medication history.

    Thank you

Hi Theo, in the UK access to treatment is via sexual health clinics. Use this link to find one local to where you will be staying: https://www.sh.uk/clinics Treatment is free in the UK. If you can arrive with your medical history and a months supply of treatment, this will help speed up access and ensure you have enough treatment in case there are any delays.

Hi Rati, thanks -these sound like exciting plans. Your HIV status does not affect your visa application or getting into the UK. You will not be asked about this by UK immigration and you do not need to mention HIV.

Please bring your meds with you – at least for 1-2 months. This will give you time to arrange your care in the UK. Once you are in the UK, HIV treatment is free, includding to students from other countries.

Please contact i-Base once you are here, if you need inforamtion about local HIC clinics.

    hi ,

I am hiv postive and i am planning to move uk on a student visa in January 2023. is there any impact on my visa application or should I disclose to uk immigration about my infection. Secondly, I am taking ART medicine from my home country, If I get a visa, can I courier my ART medicine from back home or I have to start medicine from UK?

please reply ASAP. I will be thankful to you

Hi Jagjit, your status will have no impact on your visa. You will be able to access treatment in the UK. You can bring ART from your home country – it is recommended to bring at least a month’s supply so you have time to access treatment in the UK. When carrying your medication with you, it is important to have a doctors note to prove that it is for your own use. Starting medication in the UK is free and you do not need to disclose your status to your GP. If you have your medical notes with you and your current treatment regimen, this will help speed the process.
