La glaucoma puede estar relacionada con los medicamentos que estoy tomando? (Is my glaucoma related to my medication?)

I found out I was HIV positive in May 2009. My last test showed a CD4 count of 322 and a viral load of 33,340. I would like to know if this is low or high? I have been taking HIV medication since March 2010, but have been feeling really sick since starting them with general tiredness, irritability, insomnia, and nightmares. I am anxious about getting worse, and having to go into hospital. I am being treated in a well respected hospital in Rio de Janeiro, but I am not sure of the care I am receiving.

Descobri que sou soro positivo desde maio/2009. Meu último exame em agosto/2009 diz que tenho 322 cd4 e carga viral 33.340. Gostaria de saber se essa contagem é alta ou baixa, comecei a fazer uso dos retro-virais em março/2010. Estou preocupado, pois estou me sentindo muito mal depois que comecei a fazer uso da medicação, me sinto mais cansado, tudo me irrita, tenho muita insônia e das vezes que durmo tenho sempre pesadelos. Tenho medo de ficar mal e ter que me internar, estou me tratando num hospital de referência no RJ mais mesmo assim tenho muitas dúvidas.

Thank you for your question. I am sorry you are feeling anxious and unwell. I am presuming that the tests you inquired about were taken before you started medication. If that is the case, a CD4 count of 322 is not bad as the guidelines for starting medication is a CD4 count of 350.
The most important test though when on treatment is the viral load test, which measures the virus in your blood. So if you are now on treatment your viral load should now be lower, which is a good thing. Your CD4 count should be going up and you viral load should be coming down until it gets to <50 where it should stay.
You didn’t say what HIV medication you were on. But generally, all medication has side effects and different people experience different side effects even if they are on the same medication. The side-effects usually last for about 4 to 6 weeks.

Muito obrigada pela pergunta. Sinto muito que voce se sinta ansiosa e doente. Estou asumindo que os testes que voce menciona se tomaram antes de comecar com a medicacao. Se este e o caso, um nivel de 322 CD4 nao esta mau, tendo em vista que a sugestao oficial e comecar com medicacao a partir de um CD4 de 350.
O teste mais importante, uma vez tomando a medicacao e para carga viral, que mede o virus na sua sangue. Entao agora que voce esta tomando a medicacao, a sua carga viral debe ser menos, um aspecto bom. O nivel CD4 debe estar subindo, e a carga viral debe baixar ate cegar num nivel de menos de 50, um nivel que debe permanecer estavel.
Voce nao menciona que medicacao esta tomando, mas geralmente toda medicacao teme fetos secundarios, e pessoas diferentes experimentam efetos diferentes. Os efetos secundarios nao devem durar mais de 4 a 6 semanas.
