Question
I’ve been given Telatri instead of Atrozia, is this OK?
26 November 2020. Related: Access to treatment, All topics, CD4 and viral load.
I have been on ART for 20 months now and my viral load is undetectable, 20copies. l’ve been using Atrozia. Today they gave me (telatri) should I be worried?
Answer
Thanks for getting in touch.
The main difference between Telatri and Atrozia is that Telatri contains an ARV called dolutegravir. Atroiza is based on an ARV called efavirenz.
Dolutegravir should have less side effects and it should be easier to take.
In many countries including southern Africa it iss common to be switch to the newer dolutegravir-based ART.
Please talk about this with your doctor if this is causing you any problems.
Your doctor should also have explained any change in your meds before you were switched.
Hi Nonduh, Odimune and Telatri are the same medication. They have different names because they have been made by different companies but they both work the same.
They are both generic versions of TLD. This means that both contain lamivudine. How do you mean you changed from it because of your body structure? Does lamivudine cause any specific side effects? Did ask to switch to anything specific?
Should I’ll be worried? I was given Odimune nw Telatri n told to use it during d day! My problem is dat when I read this Telatri it contains lamivudine of which I changed it b4 bcoz it changed my body structure! Nw m afraid to continue using it
Hi Ben, your nurse is correct. Telatri should be taken at the same time each day.
Being late by an hour with one dose is not going to reduce how effective your treatment is. As long as you continue taking Telatri at the same time it will still be effective.
Hey, I was told by the nurse to takeTelatri at the the same hour. I made a mistake and took it an Hour late. Will it still be effected. I was exposed
Hi Tafuka, no you do not need to be worried. These drugs are the same medication. They have different names because they have been made by different manufactures but they will still work the same way. They are both generic versions of TLD.
