Q and A

Question

How can I have sex with my HIV positive girlfriend?

Hello i- base, I am HIV negative man and my girl friend just disclosed her HIV status to me. She is HIV positive. Is it possible to still have a sexual relationship with her?

Answer

Hi

How is your girlfriend doing? Is she already on treatment? Or did she just find out about the results?

It is good that your girlfriend felt able to talk to you about this.

It shows that she trusts you and that you are important to her.

Telling someone you are HIV positive can be very stressful and very difficult. Even when there is no risk, many people get rejected.

If your partner just found out their status, then it is important to use condoms until she start HIV treatment.

Once your partners viral load becomes undetectable, there’s no risk.

If your partner is already on treatment, then there is no risk to you.

Hi Sadrack, yep you are right :)

Surely when your partner is on treatment, there is no risk or reason to get HIV from her?
