Q and A

Question

Is Reydin safe to use while pregnant?

My doctor recently changed the ARV I was suing to Reydin. Is it safe to use Reydin while pregnant?

Answer

Hi Mavis, how are you doing? Congratulations on the pregnancy.

Reydin is a first line ARV for pregnant woman. It is recommended by UK and WHO guidelines. It is safe to use in pregnancy.

Reydin is a combination of 3 medications. It does contain Dolutegravir which is associated with a small increased risk of neural tube defects. A small risk.

In the UK it is recommended that women take a folic acid supplement for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy to reduce this risk. Speaking to the doctor who prescribed the medication cam help explain why your ARV was changed.

If you want to know anything else please ask,

Josh.

    Hi Liberman

Medicine is personal and private. Even if you are a partner, you should respoect the right to privacy about health care. If this person wanted you to know, they would tell you.

These meds can be used as treatment or prevention. They also prevent partners for any risk of HIV.

If you already understand this, then you will know that your questions are not needed, and also not your business, however difficult this might sound to you.

Hi Kamogelo, yes you can use pain killers but it is not normal to be in pain everyday. If this is new or has changed since starting other medication, you should speak with your doctor about possible causes of this pain.

Hi Mercy, yes you can still have kids. ART will not negatively effect your fertility. Being on HIV treatment is the best way to keep you healthy, which will only help with getting pregnant.
