Q and A

Question

Do I need to give my baby Vecirapine if they are negative?

Is it necessary to give the babe Vecirapine if the baby is negative?

Answer

Hi, how are you? Congratulations on your new baby. This must be an exciting time.

In South Africa any baby born to an HIV mother will be given a course of Vecirapine (Nevirapine). This is given to prevent mother to baby transmission. The course is a minimum of 4 weeks and can be longer depending on individual circumstances.

It is excellent news that your baby is HIV negative. It means Vecirapine is working.

If you have any more questions please get in touch,

Josh.
