Q and A

Question

Can I take Acriptega at night?

Hi, I am taking Acriptega pills in the morning. Can I change this and take them at night?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Yes you can take Acriptega at night. Sometimes people experience insomnia when taking Acriptega at night which is why it is started in the morning. But if taking your medication in the morning is not suitable, it is safe to do so at night.

To switch you will need to take your morning dose, followed by an evening dose. Continue then taking your medication in the evening. On this first day you may experience more pronounced side effects for the time there is a high level of drug in your body. This should settle soon after.

Hi Happy, Acriptega is a medication that is recommended to be taken in the morning. It is best to do this at the same time every morning to keep the drug levels consistent in your body.

Hi Mblaz, is your partner on treatment? If they are and their viral load is below 200, there is no risk of transmission. This is called U=U: https://i-base.info/guides/testing/uu-undetectable-untransmittable Using a condom will also prevent transmission and you would not need to take any medication.

You can take PrEP everyday, or you can take it when you are planning on having sex. PrEP is a different medication to medication used to treat HIV. It only contains 2 drugs. Most commonly PrEP is Truvada: https://i-base.info/guides/746

Hi Khayakazi, Acriptega can be used to treat HIV and prevent HIV after a high risk exposure. It is not used as PrEP. Access will change depending on the country you are in. In the UK a prescription is required.

Taking this medication if you are HIV negative will not be a problem. You may experience the same side effects as those taking it who are HIV positive/preventing HIV but these will stop and not cause any long term problems.

Good day is Acriptega ARVs or it’s to prevent getting the HIV virus? Also is it accessible at any pharmacy or it’s a doctors prescription? What’s the worst thing that can happen if you take them while you HIV negative if it’s not an HIV prevention medication

Hi Mantoa, what time are you taking this medication? Acriptega is a version of TLD. TLD contains dolutegravir and this drug is known to cause insomnia. If you are able to switch the time you take medication to the morning you should be able to avoid this. This is because the side effect will have worn off by the evening and you should be able to sleep.

Hi Nonkosi, starting treatment is great. What ART are you taking? HIV medication is generally well tolerated by the body. Some may have some side effects but depending on what you take, the common ones can be avoided by the time you take it.

In the first few days you may experience heavier side effects than expected but these will get less as you continue to take them.
