Question
Is TLD and EEN the same ARV – and can both be used as PEP?

Is TLD and EEN the same ARV?
Answer
Hi, how are you?
I do not recognise EEN as an ARV. Do you know if it goes by a different name?
There are lots of ARVs that have different names but are the same drug. This is because they contain the same ingredients but are made by different manufacturers.
These are both generic ARVs.
Note: EEN was being read upside down and should have been N33, which is a generic version of TLD. This means both meds are the same.

Hi Eny, if you are doing well on this treatment there is no need to change. They will work as well as each other.
You should only consider changing if you are noticing side effects with your current regimen that will prevent you from completing the course.
Happy New week Josh
I’m in the hospital now and have opportunity to get TLD, though the doctor sees no reason for that. Please should I go ahead and
change it as today will be day 13 in another 3 hours. I’m so bothered
Hi Eny, PEP suppresses HIV so these symptoms are not related to HIV.
Please speak with your doctor about other possible causes.
This morning I saw a swollen node at the lower face region along side beards slightly above the jaw bone, not under the jaw like pimples in hair but confirmed to be node. What could that mean while on pep and very very tiny colourless dots on thighs 13 dots on a thigh and 20 on the other
Hi Eny, thank you for sharing this information. Have you been able to have this confirmed by a pharmacist? As you have noted, there can be some difficulty confirming information online.
TLD is the most common form of PEP so this is all good. Are you happy to continue?
Josh
Sorry for bothering you please. Just as I continued my search, I found out that the pill is actually a south African TLD and it’s N33, that has been wrongly positioned to read EEN.
Hi Eny, emtricitabine and tenofovir is the recommended ‘backbone’ to be used in PEP treatment.
Dolutegravir is usually recommended as the third drug. Nevirapine is not listed within the recommended guidelines however this does not mean it will not work.
There is still benefit in taking this combination rather than not. However the risk you have described is relatively low as you had been using a condom, even though they had both split. Do you know if your partner is/was on treatment? This would significantly reduce the risk of transmission.
More information about transmission risk can be found here:

Thanks Josh
I was given this in a government specialist hospital Nigeria. Ve taken the 8th pill, due for the 9th today.
I had a condom break twice in sex with a positive woman, but withdraw and replace immediately each time. And started the EEN less than an hour later . I found that emtricitabine, emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxifemurate and neverapine means EEN but not confirmed from any other source. Given to me from pharmacy
Hi Eny, as mentioned in the main question unfortunately I do not recognise EEN as an HIV medication.
Where did you enquire about what EEN was and where were you given this medication? Have you taken any TLD along the course of PEP?

Hi Josh
Please I need you to make research cos this morning, 8 days after commencing pep course which was less than an hour after exposure, I noticed about 20 new spots on my thighs, I got worried decided to check the drugs and found written on it EEN, meanwhile I told them that I already took TLD in the night at commencement.l
So right now I’m abnormally agitated cos the staff were actually mentioning prep to each other which I know is not as strong as pep(TLD). Please what can I do… EEN not even found on Google
