Question
Is TLD and EEN the same ARV – and can both be used as PEP?

Is TLD and EEN the same ARV?
Answer
Hi, how are you?
I do not recognise EEN as an ARV. Do you know if it goes by a different name?
There are lots of ARVs that have different names but are the same drug. This is because they contain the same ingredients but are made by different manufacturers.
These are both generic ARVs.
Note: EEN was being read upside down and should have been N33, which is a generic version of TLD. This means both meds are the same.

Hello Eny and thank you for the question.
I understand you are very anxious and worried but there is no need to be.
You have tested so much already. There is no need for more.
Try to follow your doctor’s advice about eating better and see how it goes.
You might feel better after a few days.
After about 50 tests, most at home and many in the clinics with different rapid antibody test, it has remained negative for this 12 weeks 1 day post PEP. I don’t know if the tremors around my pubic, stomach and front of armpits are anxiety. The anxiety has lasted as long as the exposure. There were only a few days I didn’t self test and google. I’ve not had any penetrative exposure. Only body rub with someone 39 days ago, who tested negative 34 days after, last Friday. Unless maybe the doc who drew veinous blood from me whom I didn’t know when he cut his needle exactly 9 weeks ago. Doc has always believed I have anxiety for long before now. Hbasg, hcv, urine culture negative. Doc said I should take plenty of fruits and fluids which I started yesterday and the neck and head pains cleared off. But tremors around stomach, pubic and front of armpits still there. Just did another test negative now
Hello Eny and thank you for the question.
From what you write it seems you have not tested positive in 16 weeks following sex.
Have you not had any other exposure since?
The symptoms you describe can be caused by many things, other than HIV.
It’s best to see a doctor for a general check up.
I am also attaching a link to more information about HIV and testing:

Have you considered starting PrEP? Here are some more information:

Much thanks
It’s 12 weeks after last dose of pep, with fever since 2 weeks ago, pain in the sides of neck and ear, pain on a point along the groin and yet the HIV 1/2 antibody rapid test has remained persistently negative. Exposure till date is 16 weeks and pep lasted for the first 28 days after a condom break with a positive lady. Could stress be so much that it’s delaying production of antibodies, since the fever and body pains and stomach issues don’t seem to be resolving . Thanks for all you do for us
Hi Eny, a lymph node can swell due to a number of reasons. It does not mean that PEP has damaged your lymph nodes.
What you have described is more like a common sore throat which would cause local lymph nodes to swell. Lymph nodes often get bigger in response to infection when the body is trying to clear the infection (sore throat).
Thanks dear Josh
I did exactly that. Last night, Friday, 3 days after PEP, I observed that I have little pain in my throat when I sneezed and left side of neck with no apparent cause up till this Saturday evening as I type. Throat and mouth not dry. Occasional pain on finger and toe tips. Concerned about what that means, considering that I had an exposure that led me to the PEP course. Does it mean lymph is trying to swell or the drug has caused damage to something
Hi Eny, you do not need to extend to make it 29 days. A course of PEP is 28 pills. You have completed the course of treatment.
More information about PEP can be found here: https://i-base.info/qa/factsheets/pep-faq
Ever sacrificial Josh,
Yesterday morning, I took the 28th pill. But today is just the 28th day after exposure, counting from 24 hours post exposure, cos I started immediately less than one hour of exposure. Am I taking another pill today to make 29 pills altogether in 28 days post exposure or the 28 pills I’ve taken starting from the exposure day is ok. Urgent response desired please
Hi Eny, Volutrip is a generic version of TLD. TLD is a very common first choice for PEP. It is an effective treatment with few side effects.
More information about PEP can be found here: https://i-base.info/qa/factsheets/pep-faq
Morning Josh
Thanks for the good work. The imprint on South Africa volutrip is N33 on one side and plane on the other and it’s pink oval shaped. It’s the exact volutrip. How effective is it for PEP
