Q and A

Question

Will my partner pass on HIV?

My partner is HIV positive, but his viral load is always undetectable. He never misses his medication. He is very serious about it. While having sex sometimes he wears the condom on the wrong side and then turns it upside down and wears it correctly. Can I get HIV through that? because it touches his penis and when he wears it correctly then the other (which he wore wrongly) goes into my vagina. Please answer me, his viral load is always undetectable.

Answer

Hi, how are you?

As your partner has an undetectable viral load there is no risk of transmission – you do not need a condom. While your partner is undetectable, it is not possible for HIV to be transmitted via sex.

This is explained by U=U. This states that is someone is undetectable, they are also untransmissable.

There is, and there has been no risk to you.

Josh.
