Q and A

Question

I took the morning dose of Paxlovid in the evening.

I accidentally took the morning dose of Paxlovid in the evening. Is that a problem?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Did you not take the morning dose? and instead you only had Paxlovid in the evening?

As with most medication, this is likely to be fine. Continue taking your medication when you were originally meant to.

If you notice any side effects/unexpected symptoms please speak to a pharmacist/doctor.

Hi Bridget, what time in the day did you take your morning dose? It would be best if there is at least 4 hours between these doses. You can then continue as normal e.g., morning and night doses at more suitable times.

I just got mine a little bit ago. So I took my morning dose a few hours ago is it still safe to take the evening dose too?

HI Cherie, no you do not need to ask your doctor for another full dose. As you had already taking Paxlovid, even at a lower dose there would be no benefit to extending the course for another day of a full dose. You can finish this course when your current treatment runs out.

I misread the instructions and only took one tablet Wednesday night through Friday night, then realized my mistake. So I ended up spreading out my first day dosage over two days and now I have one tablet left from that morning dosage, and then I have the full dosages for the next four days. I will start taking the full dosage tomorrow morning, but should I ask my doctor for another full day since I didn’t take those together as I should have?

Hi Paula, continue taking Paxlovid as normal. Are you able to get another dose from a pharmacist? If you are unable to do so before your course ends finish it as normal. You would not need to take a second course.

What do I do if I lost one of my Paxlovid doses so I only have 9?

Hi Mary, no this will not hurt anything. The morning and night doses are the same. They are labelled as such just to help you know when you should be taking your treatment. Just take the night dose in the morning and it will go back to normal.

Hi Janice, problems sleeping is not a side effect of Paxlovid. Has anything else changed in the last day or two that could cause this e.g., other illness, stress/anxiety?

I started paxlovid yesterday and could not sleep all night and am unable to nap today. Is this a side effect?
