Q and A

Question

I took the morning dose of Paxlovid in the evening.

I accidentally took the morning dose of Paxlovid in the evening. Is that a problem?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Did you not take the morning dose? and instead you only had Paxlovid in the evening?

As with most medication, this is likely to be fine. Continue taking your medication when you were originally meant to.

If you notice any side effects/unexpected symptoms please speak to a pharmacist/doctor.

Hi Denise, in most cases this is not going to be a problem. You may notice more side effects than normal as you have taken a higher dose.

If these side effects are ongoing or you are concerned please speak with your pharmacist.

Continue taking Paxlovid as normal e.g., your next dose in the evening. As you are going to be a dose short are you able to contact the doctor that prescribed this for you to get an extra dose to complete the course?

Hi Caroline, are you able to speak to your pharmacist?

It is a good idea to take the morning dose at night to cover for the misplaced evening doses. The pharmacist may be able to offer you an additional dose so you can complete the course.

Paxlovid will still have some effect by completing the four days, but won’t be as effective as it could be if you are not completing the course.

Hi, I’ve misplaced my 4 day nighttime dose of Paxlovid and will take the morning dose instead since they are both the same. Tomorrow I will only have one dose left. Will this be a problem missing on of my day five doses?

Hi Theresa, yes this is fine. The morning and evening doses of Paxlovid are the same.

They are labelled differently to help ensure you take them at the right time. It is okay to take the morning dose in the evening and vice versa.

I took the Night dosage wrongly for Morning Dosage. So for tonight, is it ok that I take the morning dosage instead?

Hi Wilda, continue with your course taking 2 pink and 1 white.

This will mean you will be one pink tablet short for the last dose with an extra white. Do not take 2 white on the last dose. If there is time beforehand, go to speak with your pharmacist and they can decide if you require another pink pill for the last dose.

Or it may be suitable to end with only 1 pink and 1 white depending on how you are feeling.

Hi Lou, no you do need to wait until 2:45 am to take your next dose. For Paxlovid to work it does need to be taken 12 hours apart. On this first occasion it is suitable to take the treatment a little earlier to make sure you start at a time that works for you.

In this case taking Paxlovid at 11:00 pm would provide a suitable duration between your first dose and then you can continue with 11 am and 11 pm from this point onwards.
