Q and A

Question

I think I have passed on HIV to my partner.

I mm just 26. I found out I am positive and my partner is also showing the same symptoms. I am afraid to tell him I am positive. What should I do? I have been crying and am depressed.

Answer

Hi, I am sorry you have been feeling depressed.

Have you been able to speak to anyone?

How long have you known that you are HIV positive? and are you on treatment?

Do you know how your partner feels about HIV? Speaking around the topic with him can help give you an idea of their own feelings around HIV.

I can imagine why you are feeling depressed and wanting to cry. But telling your partner is a very personal decision. You should feel safe to do so. Is it possible for your partner to go for a test without you mentioning your own status? – how long have you been together?

It is important for people to know their own status. Treatment is the only way to manage HIV. How long has your partner been experiencing these symptoms? It’s possible that it could be something else.
