Question

Do I have to take Luvigen in the morning?

I want to know is it only mornings that you can take Luvigen?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Luvigen is a generic combination of TLD. This means that it contains dolutegravir. It is recommended to take Luvigen in the morning because dolutegravir can stop you sleeping.

Taking it in the morning means this side effect wears off by the time you go to bed.

You can move the time you take Luvigen, but it is possible it will affect how you sleep.

Josh.

Hello Maria and thanks for getting in touch.

    Please don’t worry.

You can take your pills at a time that best works for you.

Also some ARVs are known to cause insomnia so it’s best to take them in the morning anyway

Hi Kgothatso, when you say unprotected do you just mean without condoms? If yes, then so long as you are not worried about pregnancy of STIs, there is no HIV risk if you don’t use condoms. Bpth being on the same treatment is also good, so long as you both have low or undetectable viral load. The only risk might be if one of you has a very high viral load on treatment. This is because if drug resistance has developed in one person, this might be transmitted to the other.

If either of you has a high viral load in the future, this might be a readson to change treatment.

Hello Joyce and thanks for getting in touch.

Luvigen is recommended to be taken in the morning, not at night.

So, please go ahead and try it in the morning (skip the night dose and just take it in the morning) and see how it works for you

Hi Wilson, this is not a common side effect but have you tried taking the meds with food in case this helps. This might only be short term but please talk to your doctor or pharmacist about things that might help, for example imodium or diet changes, also discussed here:

Hi Beauty. [ls don’t worry about this. It is easy to change to a different routine. Most people take TLD (ie Luvigen) in the morning.
