Q and A

Question

Will changing the time I take PEP be important?

I took PEP on the first day in the morning & changed on day 2 to the evening. I then took PEP in the evening at 22H00 every single day and later changed to 20H00 till the end of 28 days.

Answer

Hi there

Please do not worry about this.

The most important timing for PEP is how soon you start after you had sex. This should ideally be within hours and hopefully within 48 hours.

The earlier you start the better.

The timing of the daily dose is less important for PEP than when the same drugs are used as treatment. You should still try to take this every day though, at roughly the same time.

Hi Nguyễn, yes you can. PEP can be started within 72 hours of an exposure.

Can i start use PEP 70 hours after having first sex with a high risk HIV person?

Hi Charles, after 12 days it is possible there is enough PEP in your body that can account for missing 2 days of treatment. For this reason it is still suitable to continue with your course.
