Question

Does alcohol have an effect on TLD?

Hi, am taking this combination Dolutegravir (50mg) + Lamivudine (300mg) + Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (300mg) as PEP medicine. My question is can I take alcohol after 2 hours of taking this medicine? Does alcohol reduces the effectiveness of the medicine?

Answer

Hi, how are you?

Yes. You can drink alcohol after taking PEP.

Alcohol does not have an effect on how well PEP works. As long as alcohol is not causing you to forget/be late with your medication, PEP will still be effective.

Hi Ravi, no this will not cause any problems.

Alcohol will not interact with your treatment. As you still remembered to take TLD there will be no issues.

    Hi

Last night, I was partying with friends. I had whisky. I took my my TLD medicine within same hour.

    Does this cause any problem.

I don’t always do like this. Since it was my friend’s bachelors, so had to drink alcohol.

Hi Jemy, no this will not reduce the effectiveness of PEP. Though using alcohol to help swallow treatment is not recommended.

As you were able to keep to your normal time of PEP, taking it with alcohol will not have reduced how well it works.
