Will my baby be okay?
19 May 2023. Related: Adherence, All topics, CD4 and viral load, Children.
Hi, I discovered that I was HIV positive when I was pregnant but still I don’t take medication. My baby was given medication, my family does not know about my status yet. I want to know if my baby will be okay?
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
Congratulations on having a baby.
Baby having their own medication is going to help reduce the risk of transmission. How was baby born? and how is baby being fed?
The amount of time baby is on medication for depends on their risk. This is explained here.
Many HIV positive women give birth to healthy HIV negative babies all over the world. Baby having their own treatment is the best way to help prevent transmission.
Can I ask why you have not yet started your own treatment? and do you know your viral load and CD4 count?
Josh.
