Question

What is the difference between Trenvir and lamivudine?

Difference between Trenvir and lamivudine and can one use interchangeably?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

No these cannot be used interchangeably.

Trenvir is a combination tablet. It includes 3 drugs and is used to treat HIV.

Lamivudine is a drug that is used to make combination drugs. It cannot be used by itself to treat HIV.

Lamivudine is usually found in combination with dolutegravir and tenofivir to make TLD.

Hello Lucy and thank you for the question.

It doesn’t matter what ARV medication someone is on.

As long as their viral load is undetectable they cannot pass on HIV to their sexual partners and their babies.

That is called U=U (undetectable = untransmittable)

Hello Busisiwe and thank you for the question.

Yes this is a safe switch of medication and well done to you and your doctor for changing them.

Luvigen is much better tolerated combination, with fewer side effects. It is also more effective.

A lot of people who have made the switch report feeling much better on the new medication.

Please let us know how you get on with it.

Hi Dorothy, yes, they contain the same active ingredients. About 75-85% of all meds prescibed in the UK are generics, across all infections and illnesses.

Hi..does the generic brands work the same as the original brands?
