Question
Will I become detectable again?
29 January 2024. Related: Access to treatment, Adherence, All topics, CD4 and viral load.
I have been undetectable for about a year or two I recently lost my insurance and I haven’t taken Biktarvy in about 3 weeks to a month will I become detectable again
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
In most cases, even taking longer breaks than these 3 weeks people do not have a problem restarting medication.
After a week there is risk of a viral rebound so it is advised to use a condom and retest your viral load after restarting before relying on U=U again.
Testing your viral load again soon after starting will also show you that your meds are still working and resistance isn’t a problem.
Do you know when you will be able to restart treatment?
I recognise that going a few weeks without treatment can be scary, but you and your doctor are being proactive and even though resistance is a possibility, these are rare cases and you are currently doing everything correctly.
Josh.
