Hi there, since I was diagnosed hiv positive in the UK, why am I not starting medication before I deteriorate?
Answer
Without more details about your HIV and other health history it is a bit difficult to comment.
UK guidelines recommend that everyone living with HIV should be encouraged to be on effective treatment.
One exception though is if you have other health complications that need to be treated first.
Another reason might be if other things in your life might stop you taking the meds properly, when your clinic might want to find ways to support you first.
Can I ask when you were diagnosed and whether you have the results from your CD4 and viral load tests?
It is easy to provide more information with a few more details.
