Question

Can I get married if I am HIV positive?

Hi. Can I marry if I am HIV positive? I am only 28 male, and just diagnosed. How long I can live if I start HAART in future? Do you also think there will be more treatement options in future? Thank you

Answer

Yes, most countries have no legal obstacles against marriage, though many countries do have laws that saw you need to tell your partner about your HIV status. There are some countries where discrimination limits human rights, so it also depends where you live.

Many HIV positive men get married – to partners who are either HIV positive or HIV negative. If their partner is HIV-negative it is still possible to have children

Hi, I hope you have luck in finding a partner – HIV should not matter here. I am sorry that i-Base doesn’t have contact services.

The advantage of dating your man is that he has trusted you to know that he’s HIV positive. With that knowledge and understanding you can enjoy, and build on, a very good relationship.

    Hi Norah

It sounds like you are having a touch time at the moment.

Your email talks about different things though and all of them are important.

First, you are still very young and you have lots of reasons to be positive about having a good future.

If you have access to treatment – and it sounds like you do – then you can lead a long and normal life. this includes getting maried and having a family if this is what you want.

I am worried that you mentioned not taking meds – although this part of your email was not clear. If you have have trouble with HIV meds, please talk to your doctor. If you are worried about side effects, there are other durgs you could use that might be much easier.

What was the problem with your meds?

Once you are happier with treatment, other aspects fo your life might become easier.

I also didn’t understand why you want your partner to be HIV negative? Positvie or negative shouldn’t matter. Sometimes if your partner is also positive this si easier becasue oyu both understand the same issues. This is just a thought though.

Are you in touch with other people who are HIV positive? Sometimes this is also a way to get stronger.

Ask your clinic if there is a support group that you coldgo to or other things that could help.

I hope that things get easier – especially from talking to other poeple who are HIV positive.

HIV might be tough, but it osund like oyu are a strong person and you should let this one aspect of your life stop you from enjoying everything else.

I am a HIV positive, Can I travel out of my country to another country?

    Hi,

Whether or not you can enter a country as a person with HIV depends on the country you are wanting to go to. Many EU countries have no restrictions on the entry or stay of people who have HIV.

You can find information about specific countries here:
