Question

How can I use a different clinic to get meds in South Africa?

Hi there, how can I change the collecting clinic for my HIV meds in South Africa without a transfer letter?

Answer

Hi there

Lots of emails from South Africa also include questions about assessing meds from different clinics.

Because i-Base is based in the UK, we only have limited details about this.

This includes that getting a referral from one clinic to a new clinic seems to be important to be able to do this.

HIV meds are free in South Africa, including to migrants as well as residents. As SA is such a big country though and travelling to live in a different region needs the new clinic to know about your HIV health.

I don’t know what happens if you try to register at a new clinic but this should be possible.
