Q and A

Question

Is my CD4 count and viral load within the normal ranges?

I am currently on treatment my latest result were: viral load 29 and CD4 count 431 is this within accepteble ranges?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Your results are very good. Once you are on treatment the most important thing to monitor is your viral load which should, wherever possible, remain under 50 copies/mL. Some people get the occassional ‘blip’ where the viral load goes up a little bit and then down again. This is nothing to worry about. Your viral load of 29 is very good.

Which treatments are you on? Have you experienced any side effects? When did you start treatment?

    Hi Abdul,
Sorry about your diagnosis, but it’s great that you started treatment straight away. Please see this Q&A about starting treatment with a high CD4 count such as 749. The START study showed that HIV treatment has important benefits for your health, even if your CD4 count is still high.

    Hi Rubidzai,

It means that your viral load is undetectable, this is really important. For more info, please see here: http://i-base.info/ttfa/learning-resources/log-value-to-number-conversion-table/

Hi Rae, These results for CD4% and absolute CD4 are within the normal range. Please see question 1 here. But you need a viral load test to confirm undetectable. Undetectable viral load result is below 50 copies/mL. Please see question 2 here.

Being undetectable protects your partner from HIV. Please see U=U here.

Hi I’d like to find out, how it’s going with my results that I received because I seem to fail to understand them.
    CD45 +ve White Cell count 3.88L 4.00-10.00
    CD4% of Lymphocytes 43.17 28.00-51.00
    Absolute CD4 629 cells/uL 332-1642

Please explain whether will my partner be effected as he is negative and how is my viral load. Is it on an infectious rate or?

    Hi Nikita,

High blood pressure can be due to numerous issues, this is something that should be discussed with your doctor. How long have you been on medication for? What was your CD4 count when you started medication? And your viral load?

  9. Nikita

My ct4 is 85 and my viral load is less than 50 thousand. Last month it was 4 times in a month I had high blood pressure…I have been religiously taking my ART medicines regularly. Please advise what to do. My doc has suggested strict high protein diet.
