Question

What's the difference between ART and ARV?

I live in India, and my CD4 count is 523, since I am a middle class guy, I am taking the treatment in the government hospital.

Here they have ART treatment not ARV. Can you tell me the difference between ART and ARV?

Answer

There is no real difference between the ART and ARV.

ARV stands for Antiretrovirals and ART stands for Antiretroviral treatment. These both refer to the same medication, used to treat HIV

Best wishes.

    Hi CC,

ART and ARVs are the same thing. If you’re pregnant you should be on ARVs.

Being pregnant must one be on arv or art

    Hi Sfiso,

Side effects are common when first starting ARVs and usually go within a few weeks. Have you been told what she’ll be offered next?

    Hi Pius.

This service doesn’t answer questions about testing and transmission, because the information is already online at the FAQ page.
    http://i-base.info/qa/factsheets/hiv-transmission-and-testing

    or in this guide:

If you used a condom this will have protected you from HIV. There is nothing to worry about.

Thanks – ART is also used as a more modern version of HAART (because some doctors think the ‘highly active’ is a bit historical), but I like your broader inclusion of other important aspects of care.

Antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) are medications that slow or block the replication of Human Immuno Deficiency Virus (HIV), help to boost the body’s ability to fight of HIV infection (immune system) and decrease the viral load in the body. There are currently three major classes of ARV drugs: nucleoside or nucleotide analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) and protease inhibitors (PIs). When several such drugs, typically three or four, are taken in combination, the approach is known as Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART). Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) is a term used to describe the treatment of HIV/AIDS. ART is a ‘holistic’ treatment, which not only involves taking ARV drugs, but understanding HIV/AIDS and ART, preparing for and complying to a course of ARV therapy, ensuring proper nutrition, psychosocial support, palliative care and caring for the caregivers of Peoples Living With HIV/AIDS.

In general: ART includes ARV,HAART.What the treatment group is doing currentl is correct,
